Arlen L. Edgar is an independent oil and gas investor and consultant in Midland, Texas. After graduating from the University of Texas in 1957 with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering. he joined Pan American Petroleum Corp. (now Amoco). In 1961 he became associated with Leibrock, Landreth, Campbell, and Callaway, rising to Manager of the Consulting Division before joining Tipperary Land Corp. as an Officer and Director. He was General Manager of Western States Producing Co. from 1971 to 1973.

Mr. Edgar has been active in AIME and the Society of Petroleum Engineers for more than 20 years. He has chaired the SPE Permian Basin Section and the SPE Reprints, Investments, and Reserve Standards Committees, and was a member of the SPE Board of Directors and SPE President in 1981. He served on the AIME Board in 1980-82 and 1985, as Vice President in 1982. A 1984 recipient of the SPE Distinguished Service Award, Mr. Edgar is an SPE Distinguished Member and a Trustee of the SPE Foundation. He was selected as a Distinguished Engineering Graduate of the University of Texas College of Engineering in 1981 and as Distinguished Alumnus of Tarleton State University in 1986.
