Lewis E. and Elizabeth W. Young Scholarships
|
$1,000 grants for mining, metallurgical, or petroleum engineering or materials science undergraduate students in the Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia, or Virginia areas, that graduated from a high school in one of those areas. Dr. Lewis Emanuel Young was an outstanding mining consultant, with special interest in the development, operation and management of copper, coal, limestone and potash mines in the US and Canada. He was President of the Institute in 1949. Elizabeth W. Young was a long-time active member of The Woman's Auxiliary of AIME, heading that organization's Pennsylvania Western Section from 1936 to 1938. These scholarships are administered by the Woman's Auxiliary to the AIME (WAIME).
