President's Corner
As the new President of AIME, I am pleased to welcome you to issue two of our quarterly newsletter.

The AIME Board held its annual meeting in Jackson Hole, WY in August to update our strategic plan and rotate the officers. We have many important initiatives at present, some of which are detailed in this publication. If you have suggestions on how we can better support the Member Societies, please contact me at mkarmis@vt.edu. Here is a link to information about all of the new AIME Trustees, http://www.aimehq.org/offtrust.cfm.

I recently had the pleasure of speaking at the Emerging Leaders Alliance training in Pittsburgh, PA October 9-11. This event, offered to 50 young leaders within the 4 AIME Member Societies, ASCE, ASME, and AIChE, was very well received (see details below). Kudos to TMS on their effective and efficient leadership of this cross-disciplinary effort! The planning team is looking forward to year 2, which will include a capstone October 6-8, 2009 in the Washington, D.C. area.

While in D.C. last month meeting with the other engineering Founder Societies, AIME representatives received the exciting news that our proposals for Emerging Leaders Alliance Year 2 and the ESS:M&R Workshop were approved to receive the full amount requested of 2009 grants from the United Engineering Foundation. Additionally, the Carbon Management work proposal submitted by AIChE, on which A.I.M.E. was a sponsor, received full funding. More information about these latter two initiatives can be found below.

Finally, I will be hosting the 2009 annual Board meeting August 6-8 in Alexandria, VA. We will invite our sister engineering Founder Societies and related organizations, as well as representatives from the new administration to attend.

If you have questions or suggestions about this newsletter or AIME activities, please contact Associate Executive Director, Michele Gottwald, at gottwald@aimehq.org or 303-948-4256.

Season’s Greetings to you and yours and all the best in the New Year!

Michael Karmis
