Charles V. Millikan (SPE)

AIME DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal in
1969

In recognition of his long, outstanding service to the Society of Petroleum Engineers and to AIME, and in appreciation of his significant contributions to the engineering profession and to the encouragement and advancement of young engineers.

C.V. Millikan formed the engineering department at Amerada Petroleum Corporation and for many years served as its head. He is now a private consultant residing in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Mr. Millikan received his B.S. degree from Oklahoma State University. He earned his M.S. at the University of Pittsburgh. He joined Amerada in 1922, starting in the company's reserves estimation department.

During his many years of service to AIME, Mr. Millikan held numerous local and Section offices. In addition, he was a member of the AIME board of directors from 1947 to 1951, vice president of AIME from 1950 to 1952, and a SPE-AIME Distinguished Lecturer in 1963.

The DeGolyer Medal is the fourth major AIME and SPE award conferred on Mr. Millikan. He received the Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal in 1941 and the SPE Certificate of Service in 1965. In 1966 he was made an Honorary Member of AIME.
