Fred I. Stalkup

"In recognition of outstanding contributions to petroleum reservoir engineering in the area of miscible enhanced oil recovery."

AIME Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal in 1995

Fred I. Stalkup is Senior Research Advisor with ARCO Oil and Gas Company which he joined in 1961 as a Senior Research Engineer. His areas of expertise cover recovery methods waterflooding miscible flooding, surfactant flooding, in-situ combustion; phase behavior and flow mechanisms; prediction methods; laboratory research; field testing and application; reservoir engineering and simulation; and rock properties.

Dr. Stalkup earned a BA and PhD in chemical engineering from Rice University in 1957 and 1961 respectively. He is the author of Miscible Displacement, SPE Monograph Series, and more than 25 other publications and presentations.

He has been very active within the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) where he has served on and chaired numerous committees including judging student paper contests and member of a technical subcommittee drafting a national extractive technology research plan for Geo- science Research Institute/DOE. He is a member of the SPE Textbook Committee and is coeditor of Enhanced Oil Recovery, a textbook in progress.

He was elected Member of National Academy of Engineering, was 1985 recipient of SPE Lester C. Uren Award, was elected SPE Distinguished Member in 1985 and 1989 Dallas SPE Section Outstanding Achievements Award for National Engineers' Week.
