His work has blended a variety of scientific disciplines into petroleum engineering and management in a unique way. Expressing his insights through mathematical models has helped to identify and describe the factors that enter into the daily operation of an oil company.

Joseph E. Warren is a consultant with over 50 years of experience in the oil and gas industry who specializes in petroeconomics, development optimization, reservoir management and international operations. He is currently Chairman of Frontier Resources International Plc. Previously, he was Director of E&P Research and later, Corporate Advisor for Gulf Oil Corporation, General Superintendent of Reservoir Development for Kuwait Oil Company, Senior Vice President of Operations for Santa Fe International Corporation and President of Santa Fe Minerals Company and Director of Timan-Pechora Exploration Society. For the SPE, he was Senior Technical Editor and Chairperson of the Editorial Review Committee, Distinguished Lecturer on two occasions and author of a monthly JPT column, "In My Opinion...",for 12 years. Dr. Warren was awarded the Society's highest honor, the Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal, in 1984 and was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1993. He is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and he earned a Ph.D., also in Petroleum Engineering, from the Pennsylvania State University.
