For his significant technical contributions as primary author of the fully three-dimensional hydraulic fracture simulator GOHFER, a multi-disciplinary, integrated geomechanical fracture simulator that incorporates all the tools necessary for conventional and unconventional well completion design, analysis and optimization, and for his extensive expertise in the areas of well completion, stimulation, numerical simulation, special core analysis & formation damage.

Robert D. Barree is president and principal investigator of Barree & Associates. Previously Dr. Barree was a Senior Technical Consultant at Marathon's Petroleum Technology Center until its closure in 2000. His more than 20 years’ experience at Marathon developed extensive expertise in the areas of well completion, stimulation, numerical simulation, special core analysis, formation damage, rock mechanics, and equipment design. Dr. Barree is the author of more than seventy technical publications. He has served as SPE Distinguished Lecturer on the topic of new philosophies in hydraulic fracturing for the 1999-2000 season. Dr. Barree received the SPE Denver Petroleum Section Henry Mattson Technical Achievement Award in 1995 and the 2017 SPE Rocky Mountain Section Award for Completion Optimization and Technology. He has served on many technical committees for SPE annual and regional meetings, Applied Technology Workshops, and Forum Series. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado. Dr. Barree earned a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1977 from the Pennsylvania State University and PhD in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in 1984.
