John S. Marshall Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2005 to further mining by affording educational opportunities by assisting worthy young
students in the Mining Engineering departments of leading colleges and universities, which confer degrees
in Mining Engineering. John Sidney Marshall, an AIME member throughout his career, came to us from Virginia
via V.P.I. (BS degree in Civil Engineering) and a career of achievement and accomplishment as a mining engineer,
specializing in the ancient and honorable mining of coal.
