Richard Johnson currently is the Process Engineering Manager for Nord Rim DMCC, working on a large Greenfield Copper/Moly Project. He has more than 45 years of experience working in both operations and project development in gold and base metals projects located in 9 different countries. During this period, Richard has worked for Magma Copper, Newmont Mining, Freeport-McMoRan, BHP-Billiton, and Kvaerner Engineering. Prior to joining Nord Rim DMCC, he was the Principal Consultant and worked on several Mega Copper projects in the feasibility and detail engineering phases.

Richard has served on SME’s board of the Mineral &Metallurgical Processing Division (MPD). He received the Millman Award in 2016 and has authored several technical papers and monitoring panel sessions.

His work on feasibility studies, detail engineering, commissioning, and operations can be summarized as being a proven change agent. Re-engineering core processes and adapting new technologies have resulted in multi-million dollar impacts to those operations. He is a graduate of Missouri School of Science and Technology with a degree in Chemistry. The implementation of new technology and developing people through mentoring has been his greatest accomplishments.
